Oracy Cambridge response to the Curriculum and Assessment Review

Oracy Cambridge warmly welcomes the government’s acceptance of the Curriculum and Assessment Review’s recommendation to introduce a national oracy framework to complement the existing frameworks for reading and writing. This marks a significant and long-awaited step towards recognising spoken language as a fundamental component of education – essential not only for academic success, but also for participation in society and the world of work.

Spoken communication underpins learning in every subject, supports wellbeing and inclusion, and is central to developing confident, articulate, and thoughtful citizens. The proposed oracy framework has the potential to transform how schools value and cultivate these skills, ensuring that all children and young people – regardless of background – have the opportunity to find their voice and use it effectively.

At Oracy Cambridge, we look forward to working with the Department for Education, schools and partners across the sector to ensure that this framework builds on the best available research and classroom practice, and that its careful implementation leads to meaningful, lasting change across the curriculum.
